Rods1 Reel Repair
An assessment of the reel will be made on receiving reel. The charge for determining the repair and if parts are available is $10.00. This has to be paid no matter what happens with the repair. If the repair is rejected this charge is still owed and will be billed.

Reels that were made prior to 1910 will need to be quoted. All other reels use the quote below. These quotes are an estimated labor quote parts are not included. There may be changes to quotes depending on condition and information of reel. Parts availability will always be a question on many old reels.
Machine work. All machine work is quoted and added to repair quote as an additional cost. This cost will be determined and approved prior to work being done.

Responsibility of liability. Rods1 will not be held responsible for any damage or loss of a reel during the shipping, repair, or return shipping of any reel. Rods1 will make sure on return shipping the proper insurance is applied when returning reel. When shipping reel to Rods1 it will be your responsibility to insure the reel for a replacement cost.

Most quotes are going to be made thru emails and phone calls. Most if not all questions will be answered prior to you sending reel for repair. Quotes cannot be completed until reel is in hand. All communications can help, but until the reel is seen, a hard quote cannot be made.

Determining to repair an old reel. Example. If you have a Von Hoff that is worth $100.00. Reel want turn or crank. Will it be worth fixing? Will the repair increase value? If the reel is worth a $100.00 in fair working condition. That makes the reel you have in your hand worth guessing half that, so we will say $50.00. Shipping and reel repair will most likely be about $75.00. Now you are upside down on the reel’s worth. On the other hand you are fixing a reel for your collection or making a reel into something that works.
Can you fix the reel yourself with guidance? This would be your next options. With communications and parts it is possible. This is something to consider.

Fifty percent of reel repairs require no parts. The reel has things out of adjustment, loose parts, gummed up and dirt are a big cause of this. Not to say the problem you have will not need something like a new drag washer are a drag washer cut from leather shim stock. Most of the reel repair is labor. So the question is can Rods1 help with this option. The answer is yes. Having communication and sending pictures does not cost anything.

Estimate charge of $10.00 will be charged if service is refused after estimate.
There is a $10.00 minimum fee on all repairs. This includes bail spring replacement and pawls or when no service is required.

our preferred method of shipping is USPS Priority, cost for the first reel is $12.00 plus insurance and tracking. This is based on one reel.

Rods1 does repairs on modern reels also. We will repair any type reel from old reels to present.
